The first of four foundational modules on archetypal astrology, and the first ITAS offering in the US, will explore the place of the planetary archetype Saturn in human life, focusing on its association with the great inevitables that we must all face, including death, time, aging, suffering, solitude, alienation, and fear. We will consider, too, the connections of Saturn to specific Jungian archetypes, the Basic Perinatal Matrices of Grofian psychology, and other principles of depth psychology, focusing especially on Saturn’s role in psychological maturation and the development of wisdom through sustained effort, discipline, and hard experience.

Using film clips, music, and text, the lecture presentation by Keiron Le Grice will draw on a range of examples from philosophy, psychology, religion, myth, and the arts to illuminate the range of expressions of Saturn and help you recognize and understand its role in your own life. Over the weekend, you will learn the fundamental techniques and principles needed to work with astrology for yourself, beginning with interpreting astrological birth charts, mediated through a close engagement with your own chart. There will also be opportunities for group discussion and informal conversation with faculty and classmates. Subsequent workshops will focus in turn on Neptune, Pluto, and Uranus. We hope you can join us!

Keiron Le Grice, ITAS director and faculty, is a professor of depth psychology and chair of the Jungian and Archetypal Studies specialization at Pacifica Graduate Institute, Santa Barbara, where he teaches courses on archetypes, alchemy, individuation, synchronicity, and the history of depth psychology. He was educated at the University of Leeds, England (B.A. honors, Philosophy and Psychology) and the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco (M.A., Ph.D., Philosophy and Religion). Keiron is the author of four books––The Archetypal Cosmos, Discovering Eris, The Rebirth of the Hero, and Archetypal Reflections. A founding editor of Archai: The Journal of Archetypal Cosmology (2008-2015), Keiron now serves as Senior Editorial Advisor. He has also taught for CIIS and Grof Transpersonal Training (UK,) and is commissioning editor for Muswell Hill Press in London.

Jay Dufrechou, J.D., Ph.D., is the author of Moving through Grief, Reconnecting with Nature. He worked for many years as an attorney before undertaking doctoral studies at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP), now Sofia University, where he teaches transpersonal research ethics and dissertation research. Dividing his time between the mountains of Montana and New York City, Dufrechou also works as a mediator and consultant in conflict resolution, and is a professional archetypal astrologer. Jay has training in the enneagram, psychodrama, dreamwork, Holotropic Breathwork, and a range of other psychospiritual modalities for personal growth, conflict resolution, and community building.  As an advisory member of the Board of Directors of Inner Explorer, Jay supports research, program development, and provision of daily audio programs to assist mindful awareness, learning readiness, and behavioral self-regulation in school children. He is a founding member of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology Alliance (ITPA), which provides a forum and community for educational, literary and scientific endeavors in the field of transpersonal psychology.
